{"id":3217,"date":"2018-06-12T10:56:45","date_gmt":"2018-06-12T14:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brookwood.davisadbeta.com\/?p=3217"},"modified":"2018-06-12T10:57:40","modified_gmt":"2018-06-12T14:57:40","slug":"lungstrong-raises-85000-in-5th-annual-race-hosted-by-brookwood-financial-partners-llc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brookwood.davisadbeta.com\/?p=3217","title":{"rendered":"LUNGSTRONG Raises $85,000 in 5th Annual Race Hosted by Brookwood Financial Partners, LLC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This year\u2019s event drew the greatest turnout in its history with just under 500 runners and walkers participating.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(Beverly, MA) \u2013 On Sunday, May 20, 2018, the 5th Annual <strong><em>LUNG<\/em><\/strong><em>STRONG<\/em><strong><em> 5K Race and 1.5 Mile Walk<\/em><\/strong> took place at the Cherry Hill Office Park in Beverly\/Danvers, MA.\u00a0 Sponsored by Brookwood Financial Partners, LLC (\u201cBrookwood\u201d), over $85,000 was raised for the Mass General Thoracic Cancer Center.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>LUNG<\/strong>STRONG is a non-profit organization founded in 2011 by Diane Legg, a 13-year lung cancer survivor.\u00a0 It was created to provide unrestricted funding to cancer researchers, allowing them flexibility in pursuing potentially transformative treatments.\u00a0 Since 2013, it has raised over $2,800,000 in support of research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Mass General Cancer Center.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jill O\u2019Leary, a Vice President of Brookwood and a close personal friend of Diane\u2019s, founded the <strong>LUNG<\/strong>STRONG 5K Annual Race five years ago.\u00a0 \u201cThe first time that I met Diane, I was awed by her positivity and resiliency in the face of this disease and immediately wanted to do something to support her and her mission,\u201d said Ms. O\u2019Leary.\u00a0 \u201cI have been overwhelmed by the ongoing success of the race and with how much it has grown in the last five years. \u00a0I am extremely thankful to Brookwood, for none of this would have been possible without the amazing support of the company and my fellow colleagues at the firm,\u201d continued Ms. O\u2019Leary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the last five years, this race has raised over $450,000 for the Mass General Cancer Center.\u00a0 \u201cLung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, yet lung cancer research is the least funded relative to mortality rates,\u201d Ms. O\u2019Leary continued, \u201cAnd, like Diane, sixty percent of those diagnosed with lung cancer either have never smoked or have not smoked for decades. Diane works tirelessly to de-stigmatize the disease and generate the much needed funding.
